My optimism depends on the contents of the glass. If it's Soda, the glass is half-full. But if it's fecal coliform, well I don't think I need any more of that.

What is it with the glass half empty, glass half full metaphor? Shouldn't it be something we can actualy use? To be honest, I think that there is more to a persons personality, weather they are an optimist or a pessimist, than the fact that they judge a glass to be half empty or half full. They should have an entire series of tests to determine if someone is positive or negative, not one question. Is the glass half empty? Or half full?

well, i see your point that humans are complicated beings, but i think the point was the general idea, like most of the time are you pessimistic or most of the time you are optimistic. it seriously depends on your pov.

Yeah, I agree with the whole 'complicated' thing too, Tracer. Of course there's more to being an optimist or a pessimist. But, whichever view is most prominent in you changes your personality a lot. If you're an utter pessimist (most people don't say they are, by the way, but one can tell), then you're bound to be sort of unhappy. But if you're an utter optimist, then you might be too idealistic and get your hopes crushed when the not very ideal situation happens to you. So you have to have a balance. Hope for the best, but be prepared for anything.
